Zotac mini-ITX for Ivy Bridge

After a few very specific models leaked a few weeks ago, in the last hour we are living a real deluge of motherboards with Intel chipsets the new 7 Series. This can only be due to the launch of Ivy Bridge approaches, but for now, Intel has not confirmed anything.

We will not mention all the new motherboards with one of the Intel market 7 Series, as would not stop until the next decade, although it does highlight some of the most important. Today we speak of a couple of new Zotac mini-ITX format that will bring the next generation chipsets Panther Point: Intel Z77 and H77.

Mini-ITX format of 17 × 17 centimeters, the Zotac Z77-ITX WiFi features the LGA 1155 and will complete compatibility with both new Ivy Bridge as with previous Sandy Bridge. New to this board from previous models are closely related to the chipset: integrates a PCI Express 3.0 x 16, four USB 3.0, 2 Gigabit Ethernet, SATA II and SATA 6 Gbps and HDMI video outputs (two) and mini Display Port.

They will not disappear from the map overnight, but it’s clear that netbooks are the main losers in the arrival of the tablets, in addition to the miniaturization that are experiencing the different ranges of laptop.

One of the major manufacturers Dell and it seems that the work is not proceeding with the netbooks. The proof we have in his best-known device, the Dell Mini, which is not listed on the company website .

The Lilipuntig web discovered this fact, and pulling the rope a little, people have gotten The Verge Dell statements: the American company will focus its development in more powerful laptops and thin. Therefore not going to throw the house out the window with the ultrabooks, but consider that the market demands a product more like them, and just a cheap power.

From the point of view of that drive for notebooks, Intel and AMD, there seems no doubt the way forward. The first house has thrown out the window by creating a foundation to get the ultrabooks be a success, while the second is already working on an alternative. Across the street, Apple has already shown what customers demand, even at high prices.

In the case of Intel, also has its Cedar Trail platform for netbooks, it will not be supported by Dell, and that not only draw up more Minis, but does not want to make netbooks. The highlight of the new Intel Atom is found in the graphic, as mounting the Intel HD Graphics 3600.

Perhaps you may remember Knights Ferry, any geek’s wet dream. That project ended up canceling and led to Knights Corner, the current development that inherits a similar idea but adopts modern times.

Knights Corner, still in development, will have 50 general purpose x86 cores and aims to be able to handle peaks of 1 Tflop. The format, predictably, is PCI Express and is used extensively in large data centers, render farms and the like.

Knights Corner Technology is a great competitor NVidia Tegra and its use in large supercomputers, such as the BSC will be renewed soon. The principal difference between Tegra and Knights Corner is the architecture: the NVidia committed to achieve high efficiency energy, Intel Knights Corner will be composed of general-purpose x86 cores, more specifically based on Pentium processors a few years ago. These processors have been some design changes, such as the use of Tri-Gate transistors to 22 nanometers that come with Ivy Bridge.

We repeat once again that despite not yet been released Knights Corner is the future of supercomputing, or at least has to be one of the technologies to consider. Efficiency, effectiveness and efficiency will be key to future servers.

IDC has just released a recent market study which is telling the story of how is the microprocessor market. No big surprises in the second quarter and the most relevant is that integrated graphics processors now account for 60% of the total.

For brands, Intel maintains its absolute hegemony as a manufacturer of processors, with 79.3% market share. The company has lost 1.5% that has gone directly to his main rival, AMD, with 20.4%. Undoubtedly, the new generation of APUs with integrated graphics Shagged has earned for the headliner.

In regard to mobile processors, Intel lost 1.9%, remaining at 84.4% of the total. Once again, AMD has taken the Intel fall to fatten its share by 1.8% to 15.2%. The third manufacturer is VIA Technologies, although its share is only 0.4%.

However, the share of AMD is still only 20.4% and still has a long way to put serious strain on Intel, whose platform Sandy Bridge has also achieved a good agreement this year.

MSI is the one that has begun implementing the new generation of PCI Express 3.0. The MSI has done with his Z68A-GD80 (G3), a board designed for Intel processors (LGA 1155) and integrates the Intel chipset and specifications Z68 quite normal now, except of course the PCIe 3.0.

PCI Express 3.0 comes as a natural evolution from previous versions like 2.0 and the current widely used in virtually all motherboards on the market. According to MSI the bandwidth supported is double favor, of course, the 3.0, although in reality the components that connect to the new slot cannot take full advantage … for now. PCIe 3.0 is fully backwards compatible with version 2.0, which is a great advantage to use all current graphics cards.

The other technical features of the MSI Z68A-GD80 (Gen 3) talk about DDR3, SATA III and II versions (6 and 3 respectively Gbps), USB 3.0 and 2.0 and any little thing. As the number of PCIe 3.0 ports that offer, it is two to 16x.

MSI also announced the Z68A-GD65 (G3), another board almost identical except that it incorporates either eSATA or Firewire, and because its PCIe 2.0 slots are some less. Read more… »

They filter out new details about the next generation of SSDs from Intel: the Intel 710 and Intel SSD 720 was allowed to see a few weeks ago and continue their journey before reaching the market. We knew the 710 would be a small facelift on the 320, while the big news of the 720 is it format.

Intel SSD will start talking about the 720, it is most interesting when using PCI-Express. This model can be achieved, according to recent rumors, numbers up to 2,200 and 1,800 MB / s read and write, respectively, with capacities of 200 or 400 GB. Obviously, this is a sector-oriented model professional, ready for use in servers or workstations that can use it. The price is still unknown, but you can imagine it will not be cheap.

On the other hand, the Intel SSD 710 looks like a clone of the current 320: capacity 100, 200 or 400 GB and transfer rates of “only” 270 to 210 MB / s. They are models of entry into the world of SSD should be very cheap to achieve some success, and hopefully this issue is a surprise and we can be even closer than expected € 1 = 1 GB.

As we say the price of both models is still unknown, while its release date continues as he testified roadmap: imminent for the 710 and over the coming months for the 720.

Intel takes another generation leap in solid state drives with the launch of the Intel SSD 320 Series, which will replace the existing units Intel X25-M SATA SSD.

The main novelty of these new discs is that they are based on NAND flash memory chips of 25 nanometers. According to Intel, this new reduction of the reports can significantly increase the capacity of the units, which now reaching 600GB, and reduce the price by around 30% on the X-25M.

The new 320 series SSD SATAII interface maintained, with read speeds of 270Mbps and write speeds up to 220MBps. No figures are as high as 510 Series SSD, but its price is considerably lower. According to Intel, the prices of these drives will be $ 89 (40GB), $ 159 (80GB), $ 209 (120GB), $ 289 (160GB), $ 529 (300GB) and $ 1,069 for the larger capacity model, 600GB.

PClab.pl Boys have managed to take a sample of upcoming Intel Core processor Gulftown i9. This equips Intel 32nm six-core and was tested three motherboards and PClab team compared the results with those cast by the current i5 Core, Core i7, Core 2 Quad and Phenom II.

As expected, this micro runs six cores and 2800MHz shattered in a second any hint of the other cpus hope, that if, in looking at issues watches and kernel core, Gulftown is not much faster than the processors Core or Core i7 i5. Professional users can greatly benefit from the extra 2 cores, and its support Hyperthreading, but this is clearly not a CPU for gamers and regular users. Read more… »
